I received MUCH MUCH more than I expected. I was also familar with the author from his DOS for Dummies days.

Simply put, if you have purchased Tim Hill's Windows NT Shell Scripting and find that his book is a bit further along than you are - start with THIS book. Though DOS based all the origins and history of batch files are here.
