Summary: Does "Engineering Accounting" Offer Any Advantage?
Comment: Written for first year undergraduate engineering majors, this book presents material in a coherent, unified format, from mathematics to introductory thermodynamics to Newton's laws of motion.
The novelty of this book seems to be in its "Engineering Accounting" approach. Essentially, it is a reformulation of the conservation laws of physics in something like an accounting viewpoint. Nothing wrong with it, certainly. But it eludes me as to whether this pedagogy offers anything new over a more standard treatment of the conservation laws.
I understand that the authors probably wanted to offer something distinctive, to distinguish this text from other introductory engineering texts. But the novelty here seems to wear thin after a few chapters.
