Summary: I've seen better, but this isn't that bad.
Comment: I started programming at the age of 12 when VB was just 'BASIC'. I stopped around my 2nd year of ITT when in the CPU class, I had mastered BASIC - I hadn't used it since. Now, 6 years later, I wanted to get back into Programming. A LOT has changed since the days of BASIC .. This book was lying on our shelf as my husband had attempts at programming awile back.

Needless to say, this book is stated to be for beginners/intermediate but the writer seems to forget that. A lot of good points are made and it will teach to the fundamentals of using VB5 - just don't skip chapters. Follow it exactly as written. If you care about a CD-Rom and cut n paste sample code being available - then you are not going to be a good VB programmer. This book forces you to type the code - the only real way to learn.

The book reads much like VCR programming instructions - what beginner can program their VCR? Some point are just not clear, I think this book is just better as a "refresher" for someone who has already had the Visual.. Programming experience. If you are used to the old BASIC style, look for another book. I am.

Summary: The Best Book to Learn VB
Comment: I am a sixteen year old boy, but after I read this book I had enough skill to program on a professional level. If you want to learn Visual Basic you gotta buy this book.

Summary: It is just an ok book
Comment: If you are trying to get good understanding of the workings of VB this is not the book. Most of the topics are touched with, sometimes, useless or incomplete examples. However, I have not yet found a good book for VB that gives understanding about internals of VB a bit!
