Summary: Tutorial style, easy to follow, practical
Comment: Programming With Miranda introduces the functional language Miranda. The book comes from the authors' experience teaching the language to university students and adopts a fairly gentle tutorial style. Unlike most other functional programming books, the emphasis is quite practical - lots on "good programming style" and little on FP theory. As such, the book meets its goal of teaching sound software engineering techniques, but some readers would benefit from additional theoretical literature (a number of references are included). All the key aspects of Miranda are covered including the interpreted environment, data types, function values, polymorphism, recursion, lists, currying, higher-order functions, list comprehensions, lazy evaluation, user-defined types, abstract types, file I/O, interaction and programming in the large. There is also a large number of exercises, with solutions.
