Summary: a bible for life on "On the Road"
Comment: 'The Beat Generation'...Perhaps the forgotten generation, left the in shadow of the 60's. These are the rebles with out a cause. Never have I read a book that I felt so close to Jack Kerouac certainly captures the essence, the excitement and the contagiousness of being "On the Road"

Step back in time to America before it was so big and bad, travel to Mexico with Sal and Dean and smoke the best joint of your life, discover the first adventures of the people who would one day bring us the ' The Grateful Dead' and "The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test'. The characters you read about in this book are real and have found an off beat cult status in our society.

It is set in America, the land of the car at a time when it was still considered safe to drive around late at night, sleep in your car and live life where ever the day seems to go. A time that we can never go back to, when teenagers finally started to break away from the norm, the birth of Rock 'n' Roll....The Beat Generation. Love them.

Summary: A classic for those who don't like classics!
Comment: At lunch one recent afternoon, my friend and I were discussing books. I don't read a lot of fiction, but asked him if he had any recommendations for a good story. He jumped at the opportunity to tell me about "On The Road". Now, I've heard of the book and even saw a real good documentary on Kerouac and his beat generation friends, but I had never read any of his work. Anyway, by coincidence, my girlfriend bought me the book for my birthday, and I spent the next few days plowing through this incredible piece of storytelling.

Reading "On the Road" will take your breath away. At the end of each chapter, I found myself having to take a breath because it was quite obvious that Kerouac didn't take any while writing the book. The story comes off as this incredible ramble of beautiful words and sentences that magicly combine to describe this crazy cross country journey.

I heard that Kerouac wrote the entire manuscript on one really long piece of paper and didn't bother adding chapter, page or even paragraph breaks. It was just one big run-on story. The editors cleaned it up quite a lot, but the feeling still comes through. His descriptions of the American landscape are incredible, so incredible that they make you want to quit your job, buy some old jalopy and just go west.

Summary: ONE OF MY 20 BOOKS OF ALL-TIME & I'M A PROFESSOR
Comment: THIS BOOK IS THE BEST OF JACK KEROUAC AND , BY FAR, THE BEST OF THE "ROAD BOOKS" EVER WRITTEN (THE BEST IF YOU ASK ME). THE CHARACTERS ARE ALL VIVIDLY DEPICTED, THE ATMNOSPHERE TO ALIVE. IT HAS A LOT TO SAY ABOUT FREEDOM AND LONLINESS AND
AND SO THEY TRAVEL TO FIND THEMSELVES, WHETHER THEY KNOW IT OR NOT.

KEROUAC AND HIS FRIENDS/CHARACTERS DRAG US THROUGH EVERY EMOTION, sadness, lonliness, hopefulness and JUST PLAIN MAD! I won't tell you too much or I'll ruin your experience. And that's what it is, an internal and external experience of being human now and then.

THIS IS A BRILLINAT BOOK. IT;S A MUST READ!
