Summary: Very weak, to say the least.
Comment: Thomas Mails is one of the best authors about Native Americans alive today. His Mystic Warriors of The Plains, Dancing in The Paths of The Ancestors and both Fools Crow books were all masterful. But this book is by far his worst. I really had to force myself to read this book to the end. If I had to use one word to describe it: vague. All information about the Hopi and their prophecy's take up the space of about 30 pages. The remaining space is filled with the author's vague ramblings.
I was amazed that a man of Mails' intelligence could believe that the end of times is near and that only the Hopi and like-minded individuals will "board the ark". A good book about the Hopi and their prophecies would be more than welcome, but instead of treating the subject critically he lets the Hopi prophecies cloud his common sense. This book is a waste of time and money. I hope it never gets printed again. http://www.julio-online.net

Summary: Needs an Editor
Comment: While I give five stars to Fools Crow: Wisdom and Power by Mails because of its moving and enjoyable content and very readable style, The Hopi Survival Kit is hard to survive and might dissuade readers from getting to know Fools Crow through Mails's two books on the great man. One can browse through the Kit and pick up the esssential message, or one can look up brief and readable accounts of Hopi prophecy by Thomas Benyacya and Dan Katchongva.

Summary: This Book is Great!
Comment: This book is an important view of the Hopi Traditional Way of life. My grandfather and I do business here in Southern Utah selling Alabaster stone to the Hopi. A lot of them give the prophecies Credit that are in this book. Chief Dan Evehema Authorized this book with his on Signature in a written document which you will find inside the Book. Thomas E Mails has a lot of Credintials and is a very respected Author. This book is totally against the idea of mining on Indian Sacred Lands, and so am I. This book does not steal the culture but reperesents it from the Traditional Hopi View Point. I would recommend this book for any person who is wanting to know the truth of the Traditionals. This book is backed up with evidence.
