Summary: Book Review
Comment: The book is about the Logans struggling to keep their land in the 1930s. They are a close knit and strong black family. The main characters are Cassie, Stacey, Little Man, Christopher-John, and TJ. Of these kids, each experienced their own problems. Problems like racism and going into town getting made fun of because of the color of their skin. Out of all the kids, I liked Stacey the most.
I liked Stacey because I can relate to him. In the book Stacey, Cassie's older brother, and TJ, his best friend, would sometimes get into arguments. Whether they were friends or not, they would argue about cheating on tests, who knew more than the other, or about lying. This conflict reminds me of my best friend and me. I tell him certain things and he tells me certain things that don't work all the time. We yell at each other and don't speak at all for a while just because we were mad about something. The funny thing is, we still remain best friends.
As I read, the book made me feel as if I were really there. The beginning of the book described the road the kids walked to school on, the problem the rain caused, and the kid's personalities. The description of the confrontation between Cassie and her brothers and the racing school bus made me feel involved. If I were there I would have done the same thing as Stacey had done to the school bus. Another good part was when Hammer, the uncle, drove his nice car past the Wallaces, which meant to me that a colored man could have nice things too. The Wallaces, thought that Hammer was stirring up trouble and needed to be taught a lesson. The least interesting thing about the book was when the family went to Strawberry, a boring red-place of a town, which made the Logans feel unwanted. If I could change one thing, the story would be told from Stacey's point-of-view because he was older and did more things. He would go with his father to places that could give the story more adventure.
In all, I recommend this book for others to read. To understand how it was for black families to live and to survive back then is an important part of our culture. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Summary: Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry
Comment: The book that I read was "Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry." The author is Mildred D. Taylor. This book is about a girl named Cassie and her family. It tells about racial injustices and how the family dealt with them. The main idea was that Cassie stood up for herself and what she believed in and didn't let anybody bully her. She had a good self esteem about herself and her color. I like this story because Cassie stands up for herself and doesn't let anyone get her down. I like the author's style of writing and how I can read it and feel the way that Cassie felt. Most parts of this book is exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat, like the fire and the fight with Lillian Jean, a local white bully. This book gives me a better understanding of how difficult and frustrating it was for many people and how hard it was to make money. It gives me some knowledge on how people solved many racial problems during the days of prejudice. In my oppinion this book should not be called "Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry," but it should be "Cassie and the days of Prejudice," because only one scene in the whole book is about the field catching on fire. The rest of the book is about how Cassie felt. In conclusion I think this book would be great for someone who enjoys a lot of action. It is a terrific book and I recommend it to the whole sixth grade.

Summary: Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry
Comment: It was the late 30's and the logan familiy had been trying to pay their bills and support each other. David, their father, worked on the rail road and Mary, their mother, worked as a teacher in the local school for blacks. Their kids names were Cassie(the nararator), Stacy(the oldest brother), little man, and Christopher John. They had many struggles, keeping up the farm, paying the bills, and having money for food were very hard things to do while the whites were harrassing, teasing, and trying to kill them. On top of all that, David and Mary were both out of a job. David got hurt by the Wallaces and Mary got fired for not teaching the white version of history. The Wallaces, Simon, and Mr. Granger were watching them like hawks, so that at any moment they could take their land and their lives. T.J., Stacy's friend, was not so lucky after Stacy stopped being "friends" with him. This was a very good book. I like how most of the book was in dialogue. I think that made it easier to read and tell what was going on and it gave me more emotions which makes it more interesting. It was just right for my reading ability, The book showed me how unfair it was bakc them for blacks to be hated so much and people could tease or kill with little emotion.
