Summary: Singenpoo Rules!
Comment: The Many Adventures of Singenpoo is a collection of Paul Jennings's wonderfully creative stories about a scruffy, down-trodden cat who astounds the humans around her when they discover the feline can read and write. Adventure follows Singenpoo as she takes on a bulldog in a reading contest, joins a carnival, and leads a mass rebellion of her fellow cats whom she frees from a shelter just before they are to be put down. Singenpoo is a wonderful character, especially for readers who love the quirks and idiosyncrasies of their own pets. One word of warning, those who are offended by the sight of pets lounging on the furniture may not enjoy the author's vivid descriptions of Singenpoo's methods of defending herself from unkind humans, using every excremental weapon at her disposal! For readers who don't mind a little litterbox humor, Singenpoo's adventures are hilarious (the description of how she gets her name alone is worth the price of the book!). Jennings also teaches some wonderful lessons about kindness to animals and how the underdog (or cat!) can sometimes win. This would be a fun book for parents and kids to read together.
