Summary: A Very Different Animal of my Own
Comment: I liked this book because it shows how big of an imagination little kids can have. When I was younger I can remember thinking many different animals that I would imagine having. Things just like having a pet to play with. For other kids as well, I think it would be an eye opener. It would capture the imaginations of them. That way, maybe even they can have a writing experience of their own, for one of their, out of the ordinary animals. There are also plenty of bright colors that would grab the attention of the younger reader. Fun looking and colorful pictures is one of the most important things when reading a child a book. If these things are not shown, the child will most likely be distracted easily and want to move onto another book. The pictures show things that many children can relate to too. For example, the snowball fights and baths with rubber toys. So if the child looking at this book is too young to read, the pictures do well to really show what it's speaking of. That makes it more fun for them because then, they're not just having to listen to the person reading it but they can see for themselves. So overall, I think this would not only be a good book for children, but for teachers as well.

Summary: My Very Own Octopus
Comment: I have used this book for years as a part of my ocean unit in first grade. The sensitive story about having an octopus as a pet captures the imagination of young children, and opens the door for wonderful writing experiences with other unusual pets. Now the purple pictures have been enhanced with color, making it even more appealing. I highly recommend this book to primary teachers. Sit back and turn on your imagination.
