Comment: This book mustbe ten of the least interesting I have ever read. In his typically turgid style, David Bromwitch attacks modern poetry including Rich and Stevens with his array of stupendous techniques such as Decon (as in rat poison), the Hot air blower, the Hamfist, and the critical Dribble. The results leave, as might be expected from reading Bromwitch's earlier work on Hazlit, much to be desired. The long essays on Rich and Stevens were impressive in their girth, breadth, and limpth, and his use of historical details of the railroad and sidecar were fascinating. But in the end Bromwich's Skeptical Music left me wondering, what IS in a Brom-witch? ...
