Summary: Kinda boring but interesting from a feminist perspective
Comment: The book is from the 19th century and describes the life of a woman through her happy childhood through a more rebellious period to finally end up conforming to the expectations of everyone around her, but in the process giving up her spirit and drive. The idea is that she effaces her self as a means of escape from her time, society, and life and does not herself realize the consequences of that escape. The book is disturbing and not entertaining, and is used in many articles used in women's studies and cultural comparison.
