Summary: A Great Role Model: Jackie Robinson
Comment: The Value of Courage is my favorite book from the Value Collection. Each book focuses on a unique value that a particular person in history possessed and exemplified by his lifetime acheivements. Jackie Robinson showed courage by withstanding and overcoming all the obstacles in his struggle to become a the first black professional baseball player. Because the books are written for children, the characters are each given a fictional "friend" that helps guide and encourage the main character to continue to show his value (courage, love, patience, etc.) in order to achieve what they set out to achieve. Other books in this series that are also excellent choices are: The Value of Patience (The Wright Brothers)& The Value of Believing in yourself (Louise Pasteur).
