Summary: Excellent Book on the History of Redemption
Comment: This book should be read by all Christians who want a good understanding on God's redemptive plan since the beginning to the end. Although the author is a Reformed/Covenent theologian, this book will greatly enrich believers from all sorts of theological persuasions. I'm a dispensationalist and I found this book to be enlightening, helpful, and challenging. Of course I don't agree with all of the author's conclusions, yet he makes a very good case why he believes redemption is the same in the OT and the NT.
Also, the book can be used as an OT theological survey. This will help many laypeople who want a good introduction to OT theology from a covenant perspective. The author writes in a style that is easy to read and untechnical so that even those with no theological background can understand what is being presented. Finally, the author's attitude in the book is irenic and courteous to those who are from different theological groups. Unlike a lot of books written by Reformed scholars, the author's irenic and humble tone is refreshing and welcoming. This is a book you'll never regret reading.

Summary: Concise and clear
Comment: This title is a very finely written history of the work of redemption from Genesis to Revelation.
"The Progress of Redemption" is clear and easy for the beginning student of Scripture to understand. Christ is the Messiah and is the fulfillment of Israel. This book is a modern "classic" on this topic.
Only Holwerda's "Jesus and Israel" can compare with this book.
I am in total agreement with the reviewer below...get this book, you will not be disappointed with the depth of study and scholarship.

Summary: Summary of Previous Reyes' Review
Comment: Vangemeren accomplishes the gargantuan task of explaining God's plan of salvation or redemption in simple terms. Through his breakdown of the "progression" of the plan into smaller parts, the many charts and diagrams, and in "the tracing of the scarlet thread of Jesus Christ throughout the Bible," (obviously in the New Testament, and especially in the Old Testament,) the painting of the "big picture" is thorough. This book is awesome, on target, and recommended to all!
