Summary: THe Only Book on the Topic
Comment: This is a great book by a guy who know the principals. He is from the Uk and ran into these guys at parties before they blew up. I like the book a lot. I learned stuff i didnt already know from the interviews. I think he is too hard on Portishead and i disagree with his saying Protection is spotty. but like i said this is the only book on the Topic and it is pretty good.

Summary: Bristol Sound Explorer
Comment: Phil Johnson goes into great detail explaining the origins of the Bristol "trip-hop" scene. While the insight into early 1980's Bristol is fascinating, there is one major flaw in this work. There is not enough Massive Attack. Granted it was written before the release of the popular Mezzanine album, however Johnson doesn't explore the make up of Massive to the fullest, leaving the reader waiting for more but never getting it.
