Comment: It's a Guy Thing! (Harlequin Temptation, 902) The Wrong Bed
by Cindi Myers

Encouraged by a friend to spice things up, Cassie Michaels sets out to seduce her boyfriend at the resort where he's spending the weekend-supposedly working-and catches him with another woman. She stumbles into the arms of her high school crush, Guy Walters, who's staying down the hall. Suddenly, Cassie's so-called ordinary life is out of control: Guy is wooing her, her ex wants her back, and her thrice-married mother is complaining that she needs grandchildren. Newcomer Cindi Myers makes her Temptation debut with IT'S A GUY THING! , a quickly paced story with plenty of steam and snappy dialogue.

Summary: Sometimes people end up in the wrong bed with open eyes
Comment: "It's a Guy Thing" is the third of "The Wrong Bed" stories in the Harlequin Temptations series that I have read and the first that in which the future happy couple are not having sex in the dark with one of them not knowing that the other person is not who they think it is. In Cindi Myers' story Cassie Carmichael was planning a night of seduction to put some excitement into her dull relationship with her boyfriend Bob, only to discover that bob had already found some excitement with another woman. So when Cassie knocks on the door of the Aspen condo of Guy Walters she knows exactly what she is doing: seducing the man of her dreams. The next morning Cassie is ready for life to get back to "normal," having had her one little fling, but Guy has just enjoyed the wildest romp of his life and is suddenly looking at Cassie, formerly his little sister's best friend, in a whole new light. However, Cassie has convinced herself that fantasy and reality do not get to mix, and the sexy woman who spent the night with Guy is not the "real" Cassie.

Myers has a lot going on in this novel, because in addition to Cassie trying to sort through her feelings everybody from Cassie's best friend Jill and thrice-married mother to Bob (who refuses to go away) has advice as to what she should do with her love life. Then there is the question of what ended the friendship between Cassie and Guy's sister Amy (the answer turns out to be one of those stupid things that sometimes kill friendships) and what Cassie wants to be when she finally grows up (massage therapist and/or downhill skier).

I ended up being less than thrilled by these other obstacles because the strength of this romance is reading about Cassie and Guy sorting through their feelings. Both are surprised by the feelings they experience by their night of fun together and their tentative steps towards building a future together are rather endearing. I especially liked the way Guy would keep double-checking with himself to make sure he wanted more than sex from Cassie and another strength of the novel is that Myers gives her heroine more qualities that Guy finds attractive than turning playing a board came into an erotic experience.

The fundamental irony in the "wrong bed" romances is that, of course, the bed these people end up in by accident ends up being the "right" bed, but the chief romantic idea is that love can follow sex (which is, I believe, the exact opposite of what our mothers told us would happen). Myers makes it clear that Cassie and Guy have the requisite sexual chemistry, but Guy's romantic overtures keep taking a back seat to Cassie's conflicts over her career as well as her confusion regarding Guy's place in her heart and life. I was impressed when Guy sent Cassie flowers and I would have liked to have seen what else he could come up with in a similar romantic vein.

Summary: Sexy, fun, and so much more!
Comment: IT'S A GUY THING, is one of the best books I've read in a long time. Readers who want a sexy, fast-paced read with witty dialogue will not be disappointed, since this book has all that. But it has so much more. I really identified with Cassie as she struggled to be her own person, and rooted for Guy as he tried to show her she could have love without surrendering her sense of self. The scenes between them were hot enough to burn up the pages, but they were also humorous, touching, and quite imaginative. I'll never look at Squabble, foot massage, or chocolate the same! If you want a really great read, give this book a try!
