Summary: emotional with a lot or romance
Comment: I thought this was a very good book. It is not a fun, light story, but it is very emotional with lots of romance. I liked it enough to look up Dana Corbit's previous book, A Blessed Life.
Rick is a contractor whose company is building a new Family Center for the church. He's always been a loner--grew up in foster care, etc. What he does have going for him is a great relationship with God. His problem is that, because of things in his past, he wants absolutely nothing to do with "church" or organized religion.
Charity is pushing 30 and longing to be a mother. Her whole life revolves around (and has always revolved around) the church. You know the type -- she plants the flowers, teaches Sunday School, service, service, service. Through her controlling mother, she is holding out for a pastor/deacon type husband. What Charity is missing is a relationship with God.
It's obvious to us that these two need each other!
At first Charity comes off quite the self-righteous snob. But she develops nicely through the book. Rick's transition from confirmed loner to one who seeks/needs others is also well developed. As I mentioned above there is a lot of emotion near the end of the book, though it did seem to finish up a bit fast. Some of the pleasures in the book is the description of Charity's work as a RN in the maternity ward of the hospital and "watching" the dates Rick and Charity take.
I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have.
