Summary: This book is a Shining Star!!!!
Comment: Do you believe in first love, heartbreaks, and enchanted places? If not, pretend you do for a minute, and walk into the world of Stargirl, a unique, strange, and elusive 10th grader, who often ".....spoke of sea horses and stars, but did no know what a football was." She would sing "Happy Birthday" to you if it was your birthday. "She had no friends, yet she was the friendliest person in school." If you're still interested, then this book is for you. Stargirl, written by Jerry Spinelli, is a wonderful book about being yourself. The moral of this book is "You don't know what you have until you've lost it."
An example of this is when Leo, Stargirl's boyfriend, tells Stargirl that she should try to act more normal. So Stargirl becomes Susan Julia Caraway, "dropping her ukulele, rat, and sunflower canvas bag. Her dresses become t-shirts and jeans, her eyes and nails become painted. Leo loses Stargirl here and seems overjoyed. Deep down though, does he feel that he's lost her to the sea of popularity?
Another example is when Stargirl and her friend, Dori are singing in their musical group The Ukee Dooks, Leo feels "....afraid to walk past them, as if they weren't there....." and feels "....equally afraid to stand and listen." He doesn't go and talk to her though, and is Stargirl through trying to make him understand?
The last example is when Stargirl tells Leo that she knew that he wasn't going to ask her to go with him to the Ocotillo Ball. Leo still has time to change his mind and turn everything back to the way it was. Has time to tell her that he had taken her for granted, thinking that she'd always be there if he needed her. Has time to apologize. Time, though, for Leo, is running out.
I would rate Stargirl 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to any girl who likes a heart-rending book. It's full of excitement and wonder and will make you want to keep reading until the last page.

Comment: This book is about a girl named stargirl. She is very strange and weird all the other kids like her a bit in the beginning then she got on this show called the hot seat at her school everyone there started asking her questions about her life and why she was soo weird and goofy but she did not really care. She was a cheerleader at her school when at the championship game of her school she cheered for both teams and everyone got mad at her and suddenly someone through a tomato at her and that's when everything started going down hill. The people that hosted the show hot seat at her school where Kevin and Leo, Leo started falling in love with her and started liking her a lot but once they where together he got ignored and disliked by everyone else but his friend. I liked this book a lot it was really good and fun to read it had some dramatic moments but was real good out of a ten I would rate it a solid 8, I really liked how the author described the characters like "she seemed marooned in the sea of staring, buzzing faces". I would recommend this book to people ages 10-14 its really good book if people like a little of everything like drama suspense this book kind of has it all its also male and females would enjoy reading this book. I really enjoyed reading this book. Michael.E
