Summary: A Fun Read
Comment: As soon as I realized that Once a Princess had a sequel, I ran out and found this book as soon as possible. And I wasn't disappointed. I enjoyed it immensely. I just love Johanna Lindsey's style of writing.
The story of Vasili and Alex was made so interesting by the way they were both trying to hard to turn each other off. I laughed at so many scenes in which their plans backfired and they were drawn only closer to each other. Alex was a heroine I could admire for her spunk, her stubborness and sheer determination. She was the perfect match for such as Vasili. He on the other hand was already on my nerves from Once a Princess. I didn't like his arrogance in that book though I did understand why he acted that way. So it took a little bit for me to be won over by him. But not long. After all, he *was* drop dead gorgeous. And his true personality soon came shining through. He was fiercely protective of Alex and when he finally realized his deep love for her, I just melted watching him show his soft side.
It was so much fun catching up with Stefan and Tanya, learning about what they've been up to. Now I am just waiting for Serge and Lazar's stories. They should definetely each have one. Great book! Give it a try. But read Once a Princess first as its the first in the set.

Summary: A fun read!
Comment: When I read this book I didn't realize it was a "sequel" of sorts to "Once a Princess" which I haven't yet read - but will. I thought this book was lots of fun. Alex, at 25 quite old for a heroine, is perfectly happy with her life and her horses and is not interested in marriage. Her father wants her to marry and manufactures a "long forgotten" betrothal to Vasili, the son of his old long dead friend.
Vasili is the too-handsome-for-his-own-good cousin to the King of Cardinia. He's enjoying the bachelor life to the hilt (he's got three mistresses and a live-in slave!) and he seems to always get his way. Except when his mother tells him he's betrothed to a woman he's never met!
Since neither want to marry, they each try desperately to repell the other into breaking the betrothal (neither want to dishonor their fathers by breaking it themselves). In this Alex does the better job - if I had been Vasili, I would have had to slap her more than once!
I LOVED Vasili's character. For a vain, strutting peacock he had a lot of humor and more patience that I would have had. Alex on the other hand needed to grow up! Waiting seven years for some guy from her past was a bit much. I loved the fact that toward the end, Vasili was willing to accept the less than lady-like habits of Alex anyway not knowing she was doing it all for show. That was sweet. All in all a fun read.

Summary: Vasili Meets His Match
Comment: Vasili was so nasty and arrogant in "Once a Princess," he was downright charming! I fell in love right away. I couldn't wait for Johanna Lindsey to write his sequel, and am quite pleased with the results.
To summarize quickly, "You Belong to Me" throws together gorgeous Vasili with wild Russian Alexandra, a tomboy and horse breeder. They are duped into a betrothal by Alexandra's father and plot endless amusing ways to force the other to break it before the actual wedding takes place.
Vasili is simply exciting - the "peacock" is so insulting and contrary it's a pleasure to once again see him in action. As for Alexandra, she's his match in spirit and temperament, returning his barbs and hot air with equal passion. Plus, she is so jealous she threatens to cut off the ears of all of Vasili's "women," which makes for a fun scene or two.
Speaking of "other women," Lindsey also spices up the story with Alexandra's refusal to give up hope that her first love, Christopher, will marry her. Add to that Vasili's numerous conquests - including his own personal concubine - and you find grounds for a few serious arguments between the unwillingly betrothed pair.
The passion between them is fun, whether it's love or hate, and the setting allows for a lot of action. After all, they are traveling by horseback and wagon from Russia to Cardinia, Vasili's hometown, for the wedding. This allows bandits to sneak up on them and other fine messes to follow. Plus, everyone from "Once a Princess" makes a welcome appearance.
The only negative things I can say about "You Belong to Me" is that Russia wasn't used as much as a setting. If you'd like to read a hot Russian romance by Lindsey, read "Secret Fire" about Prince Dimitri and the Englishwoman he steals. Plus, "You Belong to Me" is very similar in plot to "Joining," a later Lindsey novel, in which the medieval hero and heroine practically kill each other to break their unwanted betrothal as well.
The only reason I didn't give "You Belong to Me" 5 stars is because its prequel, "Once a Princess" is an all-time favorite and, in my opinion, 10 times better.
