Summary: Krakauer's version of the McCandless story (Into the Wild)
Comment: I found Krakauer's Into the Wild mildly exciting and fairly interesting. I think that he does a good job of telling readers about the life of Chris McCandless and others like him. When you read this book keep in mind when you reach the point where Krakauer tells about other such persons that he's most likely trying to give other perspectives and insights to McCandless's fatal expedition to Alaska and he shouldn't be condsidered as trying to "fill up space". As for McCandless I think Krakauer hits it pretty close except for a few things. While it's true McCandless was fairly intelligent and resourceful I don't belive that McCandless's death was based on not having the proper grasp of nature, but more that he didn't prepare for the dangers he would face. More specificly what little he brought with him. Krakauer also makes a point against those of you who think McCandless had a death wish because if he did he wouldn't have tried to get out. I'd suggest this book to anyone who likes the outdoors. (Joseph D. W.)

Summary: "Into the Wild" questions the ideals of society.
Comment: Where does our society spend the most money, time and talents? This is the question Chris McCandless and Jon Krakauer express through the tale of going into the wild. Chris came from a well-off family that spent a lot of time working for the American Dream. This ideal of working hard to support a family and to have a lot of money is the basic dream that many Americans face. Therefore, the goal that Chris was expected to reach was to go to college then law school. However, Chris leaves the security of his chosen path, giving away his money and leaving school, to prove that he can survive on a subsistent level. Many people regard this action of leaving his family and following his dream as selfish. Chris' actions were extreme and hurt the one's that loved him. On the other hand, his actions are true to what he believed in and worked for all his life, his ideals. In conclusion, I would give the book five stars becuase it made readers, like myself, question the ideals that we follow and the relationships that we have with people.

Summary: Ridiculous
Comment: This book is about one of the dumbest blokes I have ever heard of. He wants to be all "Walden" or out there. Althought the whole time it rants about him leaving all the comforts of "normal" society behind, he relies on quickie marts to get his drinking water and puts it in a mass produced milk jug. Not only is kid a complete hypocrite, but he is a foolish boy who hasnt yet grown up. It honestly is a book about a complete fool. Somehow he has been glorified, because of his idiocy. I just don't buy it.
Why did I give it 2 stars? Because it was entertaining reading about how utterly ignorant this kid was.
