Summary: One of the best
Comment: Most British people of my generation grew up with this book. I bought a new copy recently to read to my son but, like the teacher mentioned in someone else's review, found myself unable to read it without weeping. Paul Gallico wrote many wonderful children's books, which are well worth finding either in the library or second hand. Like many other reviewers I too have looked for the movie (Richard Harris and Jenny Agutter). British tv remake all the classics every 20 years or so. Agutter's "The Railway Children" has just been remade, so it's quite on the cards they are working on a new version of "The Snow Goose" as well. Let's hope so.

Comment: I read this book after I started reading Wm Fiennes The Snow Geese. He was so deeply affected by The Snow Goose reading by his teacher as a child that he had to pursue the geese. A quick 30 minute read, days later I find myself still thinking about this short story. Touching and haunting.

Summary: A Family Tradition
Comment: When I was pregnant with all four of my children, I bought each one a copy of The Snow Goose and read it to them every night while listening to soft "comfy" music. Now, they have done the same for my grandchildren. It is truly one of the best war stories ever written. The people are believable, my heart hurts for Firth, Rylander and the goose at the end of the story, every time I read it. This story makes the war and people come alive with emotions unfounded in any other story.
