Comment: The book does a good job of getting you into reading German. However, some things I feel necessary and helpful are not included such as rules for verb conjugation and a summary of vocabulary learned for the chapter. Also the sentence-by-sentence reading does not help much. There aren't many dialogues or paragraphs to read. If you are like me and like seeing that stuff, this may not be the book for you.

Comment: When I first started learning German, I borrowed this book from the local public library and found it very useful. The chapters introduce basic vocabulary, and the grammar explanations are clear but not too complex. The text tries to simplify pronunciation, indicating how it sounds using English spellings. Overall, a very good self-instruction German text.

Comment: This is one of the best books on learning German that I have encountered. The pronunciations under each word are of tremendous value. They allow someone that speaks english to easily and properly pronounce german words. With enough repitition learning the language is easy.
