Rating: 5
Summary: GREAT FOR OVERACHIEVERS AND UNDERACHIEVERS
Comment: This is a great book if you're a type A personality, because it points out the dangers of being to pushy, not listening, etc. It is also a great book for underperformers, because it points out behaviors such as feeling sorry for yourself, letting fear run your life, etc. This book will help you understand yourself and others whether you're a Type A, B or C personality.

Rating: 2
Summary: Chicken Soup for the Self-Defeatist Soul
Comment: It's not surprising to me that the author of the "Chicken Soup" books gave his recommendation for this book, as it's just as "lite."

For those who have found this helpful, I congratulate you. To me, the authors' one-size-fits-all reasonings behind behaviors are oversimplified. We, as humans are incredibly complex, and our reasons for engaging in oh-so-addictive self-defeating behaviors are myriad.

I found Cudney/Hardy's book, "Self-Defeating Behaviors" to be much more valuable than this one.

Rating: 4
Summary: Mentally Healthful Advice
Comment: Mentally healthy people are not threatened by the success of other people, insecure people are. This book helps you to rise to level of the healthy group. Don't be so hard on yourself in the process of growing healthy mentally. We're told, "self-flagellation is ultimately self-defeating. It's important to distinguish between hating yourself and hating something you did."

In part we receive positive feelings about ourselves based on our ability to give something of value to other people. Being other conscious rather than self-focused fits the mentally healthy personality. When you give a person your undivided attention you are giving them something of value.

The practical advice in this book will enhance your interpersonal skills. The suggestions are, generally, solid and doable.
