Summary: Hilarious, entertaining vampire farce!
Comment: I knew I'd found a droll, entertaining vampire farce when I picked up this book. However, I hadn't expected it to be a laugh-a-minute novel that had me in hysterics in inappropriate times! Who would have thought that ditsy, shoe-loving former model Betsy was the queen of the undead? That's exactly what happens when she wakes up inside a coffin. She had been run over and killed by a car just a couple of days ago. And if discovering that her stepmother dressed her up in a pink suit and cheap shoes isn't traumatizing enough, she craves blood, is a creature of the night and has to stay away from the charms of Eric Sinclair -- a tall, dark and gorgeous vampire with a hidden agenda...

I laughed so many times reading this novel. Betsy is dry and sarcastic and I lost count of her many quips. The story and characters have a caricature quality to them that makes the novel seem more like a parody than a satire. Undead and Unwed is a fast-paced, fun novel that you won't be able to put down. If you like paranormal novels, sassy and chic heroines, dry wit and low-brow humor, then make sure you give this novel a whirl. Perfect for the beach! I look forward to reading more of Mary Janice Davidson, especially the erotic novels she wrote for Ellora's Cave.

Summary: It's A Killer!
Comment: UNDEAD AND UNWED by MaryJanice Davidson SPOILERS NOT INCLUDED -- 10:52:26 03/05/04 Fri
For those of you looking for yet another Vampire fix! This book is tooo funny! If you thonk your having a bad day...meet Betsy Taylor (yep, short for Elizabeth Taylor!) today is her 30th birthday and it ain't happy. The bus is late and of course the only available seat on it has gum in it! She's late to work, only to find that she has been laid off. Her birthday party is canceled due to a freak snowstorm and her cat Gizelle has run off again! Well, since Giselle is a "house-cat" she goes outside to retrieve her only to be plowed down and killed by a Pontiac Aztec! Now, you may think how could things get worse? Well they do and what she goes through is HILARIOUS!!!

This book was originally published as an E-Book for Ellora's Cave. So all you Ellora's Cave fans you may have already read this book. Well half of the book. According to rumor, Mary Janice added over 200 more pages which not only lengthened the story (well duh) but allowed her to explore and expand the plot. All to my great satisfaction!

So those fans of Susan Donovan, Jennifer Crusie, and SEP run, do not walk to the bookstore for your copy!

If rumor is true, Mary Janice had to tone down the sex. Now, if this accurate, the pages must have spontaneously combusted after reading CAUSE the scenes are HUGH 5+.

Summary: Funny! Witty!
Comment: If Carrie from Sex in the City became a vampire, she'd be a lot like Betsy Taylor, the heroine from this book. Completely shallow, concerned only with her appearance, and the quintessential blonde, Betsy nevertheless has a delightful charm.

Some of the plot elements were hysterically stereotyped,(like the greasy pompadour-wearing bad vampire.) Some of the elements were annoyingly stereotyped, (like the 'good' vampire being tall dark and sexy.)

Mary Janice Davidson's witty turn-of-phrases and Betsy's irreverant inner dialogue remind me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie, not the show.) I read it in one sitting, and recommended it to two people already.
