Summary: Flatly, the worst Doctor Who book ever written
Comment: Now, I am not a continuity demon ... I can accept it when an author writes a novel that isn't down the line perfect with every other Doctor Who book ever published.
But this is just going too far.
This book contains an event that is, without the slightest question, the most dramatic event in human history, an event that could not possibly be covered up in any way. And not a single one of the characters who were born after it occurred knows about it; even the Doctor is taken totally by surprise.
That isn't the book's only flaw, or even its only fatal flaw. An important character in the Whoniverse is killed off grotesquely -- not for a plot point, but simply as a random victim. The characterization of Chris and Tammuz is abysmal; no one in this novel acts like a real person, but those two don't even work as stereotypes.
There's absolutely nothing worthwhile here whatsoever; I get the impression the author had no interest in telling a decent story, but simply wished to shock the reader. He accomplished this; I was shocked they had the gall to publish it.
