Summary: A Deathless Tale of the Undead
Comment: I was introduced to Dracula as a child watching Bela Lugosi portray the Count on the late night horror show "Shock Theater". This began a semi-fascination with vampire movies which continues to this day. I've not seen all the Dracula movies, but I'd seen dozens before I read the novel after graduating college. Nothing I've ever seen on the screen compares to Bram Stoker's original story. The story, which is told in the format of journal entries, letters, and newspaper clippings, engrossed me and carried me headlong to the final chapter.
The power of Stoker's written masterpiece exceeds the power of any screen production by a power of 10. Film isn't even the second most powerful medium for Dracula. The Naxos Audiobooks production of Dracula features a full cast but retains the format of the book. Different actors speak the journal entries of the various parties, with dialog and action being dramatized. Audio plays have been called "the theater of the mind", and that description well suits the Naxos production of Dracula. All in all, the audio play gives a satisfying way to experience the legend of Dracula.

Summary: Super-duper, Spooky Ride!!
Comment: Bram Stoker's "DRACULA" is definitely THE GOTHIC NOVEL. I read Stoker's novel for a course on Gothic Literature and still think it is one of the best books I have ever read. So the rambling by Renfield was a little over-wrought and confusing and sort of slowed the story down a bit, so Mina's pontifications and "let's all love one another" ... could get a bit out of hand and annoying (though it is set in Victorian times, what do we expect??), BUT Stoker's book has alot of wonderful characters, suspense and tension to keep the reader going. I was reading it late at night in my room and when the curtains were blowing in my room, it made a sound which made me fear a vampiric bat was lying in wait of me outside, waiting for me to invite him in....shudder....A super book on alternative family/ blood ties, about good vs. evil, about love and lust, about the mysterious eastern European landscape and Vlad the Impaler, this romantic (in the old sense) book is a must read for all. ....

Summary: you have to love vampires to appreciate this book
Comment: As an avid researcher of vampires, I hate that I feel the way I do about Stoker's _Dracula_, the novel responsible for starting the 20th century vampire craze, but I think that this book might well be the most boring vampire novel I have ever read. While I consider _Dracula_ essential reading for anyone who's seriously interested in vampires, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone else but those select few. For the person studying 19th century literature, there are dozens, even hundreds, of superior pieces to study. And to the casual reader who's just looking for a good classic horror novel, I'd recommend something by H.G. Wells. _Dracula_, with its bland style, unconvincing and flat characters, and slow-paced story, is truly a novel that only a die-hard fan of vampires could love.
