Summary: so simple it's scary
Comment: The simplistic writing style of "Blizzard" hides an actual depth to the story. While it may seem surfacly that "Blizzard" is nothing more than another disaster/end of the world novel (which to a major extent the book enjoyably is) -- and a poorly written one at that, due to cliched dialogue and thin character descriptions -- there is more to this book.
Not only is the story still relevent in todays' post-cold war world, the very doomsday device theorized -- weather modification -- is still a very viable hypothesis. What makes this book really stand away from books of a similar nature, however, is the climatic end, where not only is there a not-true-to-formula end-of-the-world ending, but there is a larger and more socially relevent surprise regarding our own nations' ability to withhold the truth from the people.
