Summary: THIS IS A REFERENCE BOOK, NOT A TEXT BOOK
Comment: ...The title clearly states that it's a reference book and not a text book, and thus it should be treated like a reference book.

This book is neartly organized in alphabetical order so you can quickly find what you're after. For example, if you want to know about verbs tenses, you look under 'Tense', and you'll find a definition of the 12 existing verb tenses with clear explanations and examples. There is no need to try to find what you're after in the index, which is often the case with other grammar books.

To use this book, you might need some basic knowledge of grammar, in which case I recommend a text book or workbook. The content is accurate and useful.

'The Element of Style' is an excellent book too, but it's a book about mastering good writing style -- it's not a grammar book. I have both books, and both are useful in their own rights.

If you're a student of English or someone who likes to check grammar points quickly, I highly recommend this book.

Summary: So many other grammar books...Why this one? (Good question!)
Comment: This book lacks any content. When it does say something, it is brief. Don't buy this book: invest in Elements of Style or the NYT Style Book. This one is skimpy and cursory.

Rating: 1
Summary: Reference, not tutorial
Comment: This book may be a good, concise reference for a teacher. If you are trying to learn about grammar on your own, save your money: try ""Grammar Smart : A Guide to Perfect Usage (The Princeton Review)"" instead.
