Summary: Bud Not Buddy Review
Comment: To begin, we feel that this literary piece is appropriate for 3rd grade and up whether used as a read aloud(lower) or for silent reading(upper). This story can be integrated with Language Arts(Similies, Metaphors, and other literary devices), Social Studies(Depression Era, Geography, Families, Communities), Music Appreciation(Jazz), and Math(Economics). The author of "Bud, Not Buddy" brings about a sensitivity to other cultures and family structures, and develops an appreciation for differences within society. This first person narrative, displays the importance of belonging and the endless fight to meet one's personal needs.
As the reader, one becomes engaged in Bud's adventures, stories, struggles, and victories. After Bud's mother's death, he is lead to search for his biological father; however, this search is interupted by Bud being placed in numerous foster homes. This does stop his desire to find out where he really belongs, but rather encourages it. "Bud, Not Buddy" is a wonderful book to enlighten students about real-world experiences; futhermore, it touches the heart of the reader and stimulates anticipation, compassion for others, and a love for reading.

Summary: Bud, Not Buddy Review
Comment: Bud Caldwell encounters many things such as hornet's nest, a big bully, and a train hop. This might sound foolish but there's always a reason for his remarkable actions and choices. I recommend this funny book for ages 8-12. I recommend it for ages 8-12 because it is neither a hard read nor an adult plot, but it wouldn't be interesting for teenagers. Nothing will stop Bud from finding his father. He always carries around many flyers of a band... will the flyers help him or work against his intentions? Bud is the main character, and a very confident ten year-old boy who has unlimited bravery. He has a lot of incorrect understandings, which, much of the time, turn out to be hilarious. He is named Bud, not Buddy, because his mother thought it would be more grown up for him. This book is set in the 1920's or 30's. Bud's courage and endurance taught me to keep on going, no matter what. Christopher Paul Curtis is a wonderful author, whose books are always a treat to enjoy. He writes his books in first person, just as a black child would. He has a lot of slang in his book such as, "My eyes don't cry no more." I think it makes his books a little bit of. I highly recommend this book in addition with, The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963, for they are both funny and ad venturous. Happy reading!

Summary: this is a great book!
Comment: When I was in fourth grade everyone had already read this book. I was stuck aloneand i didn't want to read it. Finnally in 5th grade I decided to read it. I completely regrete it that I didn't read it in fourth grade! It is a great book to learn from I thought the rules were funny that bud followed. The time in that part of history was horrible. If you read this book be sure that you knoww what time period it's from! it's just a great book that show how Budd survived back then.
