Title: The Last Victim : A True-Life Journey into the Mind of the Serial Killer by Jason Moss, Jeffrey Kottler ISBN: 0-446-60827-0 Publisher: Warner Books Pub. Date: 01 February, 2000 Format: Mass Market Paperback Volumes: 1 List Price(USD): $6.99 |
Average Customer Rating: 3.35 (217 reviews)
Rating: 3
Summary: Disturbing and provacative
Comment: Moss and Kottler's The Last Victim presents more than simple insight into victimology. It provides paralel psychological profiles both of the serial killers represented in the book and and of Jason Moss. Jason practiced his chameleon-like tendencies in high school and perfected them as he pursued the attention of multiple incarcerated serial killers. Moss's loneliness and alienation from peers coupled with his dysfunctional parental relationships primes him for seeking correspondence, and eventually acceptance, by the likes of incarcerated serial killers Gacy, Dahmer, Ramirez, and Manson.
Moss studies these men and their victims or followers, and then mirrors what he perceives will be most attractive to them. In doing so, he gains the confidence of John Wayne Gacy which eventually leads to a harrowing two days spent alone with Gacy in a cell. He accomplishes this through manipulating Gacy into believing that he is "the perfect victim." In doing so, Mr. Moss almost becomes the victim that he had pretended to be.
This book has many disturbing factors, not the least of which is the inclusion of Mr. Moss's 14 year-old brother, even periferally in his schemes. Another thing that haunts me is that the criminal justice system would permit an eighteen-year-old young man unsupervised contact with a serial killer who had previously killed 33 young men.
As a sex offender parole officer, I will use the knowledge gained concerning the types of manipulations and victimizations used by Gacy on Jason with my offenders. Pamela Stites

Summary: Brilliant work
Comment: I found this book terrible interesting. You learn a lot about J.Moss, which is a great start...In a book like this one it helps to understand why a young man would do such a thing as because friends with serial killers! Many people are interested in Serial killers and what makes them tick!! J.Moss opens the void into many disturbing minds. In this book you will read about John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Richard Ramirez, Henry Lee Lucas and Andrew "Koko" Kokoalies. With this book you will learn information about these men that you may not have known before you picked this book up. Really how many people can truly say that they have gotten into the mind of a killer?? Doctor's try by doing different tests and what not, and they find out info that is very important and interesting. But because Jason pushes onto what drives these men it opens the void on communication between a killer and an average person. I recommend this book to anyone who is truly interested into the mind of killers, their beliefs and their lives.

Summary: Egomania at its finest
Comment: This Jason Moss character is so full of himself, the book is difficult to wade through. I found myself skimming the pages for any shred of real literature. There are a VERY few truly fascinating passages, but other than that, the book is so full of JASON MOSS and his accomplishments, it is truly annoying and sickening. I agree with another reviewer, but it cheap if you must!
