Summary: A action hero with a future
Comment: This is my first book of David Morrell's that I have read, all I can say is WOW. This book could easily be made into a great action adventure movie. I could not quite picture who would play Cavanaugh. I thought maybe Arnold Schwarzenegger in his early days.
Getting back to the book, it was one of the greatest action reads I have read in the quite a while. I knew that Morrell did First Blood, so I decided to try this new book, and it will remain one of my favorites for a long time to come. It has a great hero, a love story, a cruel villan, and lots and lots of action. If you need something to keep you awake at a slow job or like to read lots of intense fast paced action, then try this book. I know this will cause me to read more of Morrell's novels.

Summary: No one does action and suspense better than David Morrell.
Comment: It's hard to believe that books like "First Blood" (inspiration for Rambo) and "Brotherhood of the Rose" were written twenty years ago or more, with "Brotherhood" written in 1984. It's even harder to believe that David Morrell has kept up the frantic pace of his novels for this many years without slowing down or missing a beat.

The main character of THE PROTECTOR is essentially a super-bodyguard in the same mold of the main character of Morrell's best-selling novel ever, THE FIFTH PROFESSION (whose protagonist, Savage, is an 'executive protector'). Like most of Morrell's books, THE PROTECTOR gets off to a fast start and absolutely flies by. As technology has progressed over the years, so has Morrell's writing material, always incorporating the newest trends in electronic gadgets and spy tradecraft into his storylines and his characters.

An early twist will securely lock you into the plot, and will keep you from putting the book down for very long. With one action scene after another, this has motion picture written all over it. The years haven't affected David Morrell's writing. He's as good as ever, and THE PROTECTOR is proof positive.

Summary: rigid characters, rigid plots, rigid writing
Comment: once upon a time, mr. morrell was one of my favorite writers whose books i won't miss for the world. but then, the books he wrote gradually went down hill. this protector is no better but worse. the characters are all badly created, the plot actually sucks big time, the dialogue, my god, is so bad that any conversation between the hubby and the wife does not ring true and really sucks. as to what morrell had learned in his survival training, i'd prefer reading the textbook instead of his second handed recollections. using the duct tape to stop the bleeding? give me a break! we all know that the stickness of the duct tape would be totally non-exist once any kind of moisture including the thick running blood touches the glue. the combat knife is good though, i'd try to get it if i could spot in pawn shops.
