Summary: Okay reading for a day at the beach
Comment: LAKE HOUSE is fine and dandy if you're in the mood to veg out with a pleasant and fast read. Overall, the mood is upbeat, and you don't have to think too much. Nothing wrong with that.

However, if you're looking for something with more substance, this book might not be for you.

LAKE HOUSE is packed with cliches, quotes, paraphrases and such; catchy stuff you've been hearing for years. More troublesome was the lack of continuity. It seemed as though chunks of text were missing. It got worse near the end. An example that won't spoil the story: Frannie's in a bad situation; she's helpless. Next thing you know, she's escaping with the rest of the gang. Wha' happened?! It was a quantum leap from one situation to another, with nothing to connect them. At the end, events moved much too quickly and abruptly; it was almost surreal. To be blunt, much about the book struck me as lazy and, well, sloppy.

Time was I counted James Patterson among my favorite authors. I hate saying it, but his latest is a major letdown.

Comment: An inane storyline and poorly written. Luckily I got this book from the library so I didn't waste my money on it - just time!

Summary: Wasted my money
Comment: See, there is this ruthless Dr. Kane who wants to control the world by selling immortality to rich men. He has already made these kids that fly but they have flown the nest and he is trying to kill them before thay spill the beans. Kane has cloned himself so they is more than one bad guy. His wife is a robot that when he turns it on says, "do me". The birds kids are "helped" by this Veternarian and an FBI agent who are as poorly drawn as any two characters ever in the history of modern fiction. That is the plot. I have read Patterson before and he is usually not too bad. The only thing I can figure is that he was on a period of heavy drink or drugs while working on this one. What is impossible to know is why any self-respecting publisher would put their name on such a book.
