Summary: Much love to the brothas!
Comment: When I saw this book on the stands I was immediately excited at the prospect of four African American male authors combining their talents within the cover of one book. I snapped up "Got To Be Real" and hummed with anticipation all the way home.
In my opinion, the outstanding story here is by Marcus Major. I got so wrapped up in this love story that I ran to get my copy of "Good Peoples" to see what eventually happened between Kenya and Amir, as Amir also turns up in this novel as the main character's brother.
E. Lynn Harris does a fine job with his story, as usual, but I have to say I was not feeling Eric Jerome Dickey or Colin Channer. EJD's story of was so busy being atmospheric and descriptive that the actual love seemed forced, and I just could not get into Channer's tale no matter how hard I tried.
I couldn't give this book any less than 4 stars out of respect to these talented authors. You may love all four stories, but I'll be you'll come away hungry for Marcus Major's newest book.

Summary: GOT TO BE REAL
Comment: I really enjoyed GOT TO BE REAL. It was calling me from the shelves of Best Buy and I snatched it up because I was so surprised to see what appeared almost as the cover of a Black comic strip. I had no idea what it was about and my curiosty led me to a book that gave me four unique and wonderful stories written by very talented Black men. How did they write stories that both men and woman could enjoy? Honey, they did it..and they did it with eloquence. There are a plethora of enjoyable scenarios throughout the stories that everyone can either relate to or wish they'd discover ;). My favorite story is I'M STILL WAITING by Colin Channer because I have a particular belief that true love could possibly stem from "puppy love" and always have a special place in your heart. The following are scenes from the short stories that I enjoyed: Going to the Jamaican speakeasy with Colin Channer's characters Michael and Mia, to the party in NYC thrown by Thunder in E. Lynn Harris' story, Amir realizing that he really did love Kenya and stationing himself outside her door (do guys really do this? lol..written by a man..so I do believe it ;) in Marcus Major's story and last but not least the meeting of Eric Jerome Dickey's characters Alejandria and Bobby and the weird uneasiness yet sexual magnetism that sometimes exists with a sexy stranger. This book is a must-have that will keep you flipping the pages.

Summary: If You Have a Lot of Time on Your Hands
Comment: By all means read this book if you have nothing better to do. This book had 4 short stories but it took me 4 long weeks to read it. It was by far the worse book by all of these wonderful writers. Individually they are outstanding authors but they really should stay away from the "short story" colaborations and stick to doing their "own thing". This book makes for good bedtime reading. It will put you to sleep quicker than Nyquil.
