Summary: A family's search for the truth.
Comment: First of all, let me say that I feel for the Cohens. This was a very bitter tradegy for them.
I had a hard time getting through this book, and evenually returned it to the bookstore. The reason is that the Cohens are very bitter toward everyone who has tried to help them.
They are bitter at Pan Am, the Reagan, Bush, and subsequent Clinton administrations, the town of Lockerbie, and other families that suffered similar losses. I guess maybe they will be bitter all their life, but for people to read all this bitterness is perhaps a bit much. Some of these people are as much a victim of the bomb as their daughter was, but yet life goes on.
Pan Am was a victim of the bomb and went out of business as an indirect result of it. The Cohens rejoice when the airline goes out of business. Thousands of people lose their job, and they rejoice. Why?
Other families disagree with their methods. They accuse them of money grubbing. Sad!
The town of Lockerbie doesn't choose to honor the loss as the Cohens want, and they become more bitter.
When I die, I hope my loved ones move on with their lives. I hope the Cohens can get over their bitterness, but I doubt this.
If the reader wants to do some selective reading, read bits and pieces of this book. It will inform them of the tragedy of terrorism.

Summary: It's one of the best books, I ever read!
Comment: After reading this book, you are changed forever in a little way. It is hard to imagine the Cohen's hell since December 21, 1988. They vividly describe that day with such clarity despite their personal loss. Who was Theo Cohen? She was returning home from a semester abroad. To Dan and Susan Cohen, she was their life, their gift from God, and to be taken in such a manner. They were robbed of her! Of course, they're bitter! angry! Why shouldn't they? They have done nothing to deserve this! I am sad to see some of the negative reviews of this book. I hope that now with September 11, 2001 being a distant memory. We can now recall what happened on December 21, 1988 as the beginning of terrorism on Americans. MAybe if we had listened to the people like the Cohens, the events of September 11, 2001 could have ended differently. Sadly, the COhens are good decent human beings who have contributed so much to literature themselves. Sadly, their best work is Pan Am 103 and their fight. I hope you can reread now. The Cohens and so many others have experienced so much pain and terror. They deserve justice and peace. After doing much research on Lockerbie and the plane explosion, I believe people's short-term memories have forgotten it happened on the shortest day of the year. The crash destroyed the potential lives of 259 aboard and 11 on ground. Lockerbie, Scotland will always have the memory of December 21, 1988 in its minds. Sadly, the Cohens and myself seek to know what happened to lead to that disaster. After reading this book, I can imagine the COhen's life before and after the crash. IT would never be the same again. They have moved on but they still are fighting not just for Theo's memory but for the rest of us.

Summary: Pan Am Flight 103 and 9/11
Comment: I think this is a good book to read. On December 21, 2003, America did NOT care at all that that day was the 15th anniversary of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103.
I think that we should have listened to the Cohens after the bombing. The bombing WAS AN ACT OF WAR. The question came up after Flight 103 and again after the terror attacks on New York and Washington--Why didn't America act strong enough to prevent terrorism? Pan Am Flight 103 was an indictment on America's ability to deal with terrorism. Flight 103 until 9/11 was the worst act of terrorist violence ever waged against the United States-189 of the 270 killed in the bombing were Americans.
After 9/11, America struck back at Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda training camps, knowing that the terrorist network was behind the attacks. Why didn't America strike back at Colonel Muammar Gadhafi after the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103? If America had hit at Libya after Flight 103, then other acts of terrorist violence wouldn't have happened. Because we didn't do so, failing to obey the Cohens on bringing the suspects to justice, more acts of terrorist violence against Americans happened.
After Flight 103, America did NOTHING but talk.
I strongly believe that after reading the book, America didn't act strong enough to take drastic steps to prevent such acts of terrorism from happening again and to beef up airport security after the bombing, even though we did so.
I also believe that after 9/11, even though America beefed up security at airports, hiring federal screeners, someone can smuggle explosives onto a plane, because luggage that travel in the cargo hold are not checked for explosives.
America did beef up airport security after both attacks, but I agree with what the critics said, America did NOT beef up security strong enough.
Look at Europe, because of the terrorist operations in the countries of that continent, security at airports is very stringent. America should have thought about that, so that 9/11 wouldn't have occured. They should have thought about it after Pan Am Flight 103, which was the beginning of terrorism around the world. Flight 103 was the first of a series of terrorist attacks in Europe.
