Summary: Moving and masterful
Comment: Peter Davis has written a moving but sad chronicle of the terrible problem of poverty in the US. The National School Lunch program was started at the beginning of WWII because a significant number of recruits were found to be suffering from the effects of malnutrition. Do we need to have another war before we address the problems of the poor of the present day? Newt Gingrich and his buddies need to read this book.

Comment: After reading this book, one is glad that Davis was mugged in front of his ritzy apartment. One only wishes that the mugger had broken Davis' typing fingers, so we readers could have been spared this idiotic tome
