Summary: An excellent tool.
Comment: I've had the fortune of seeing this book, and I can say that is worth every penny. True, it's limited to a certain few animals, but there's only so many pages and only so much interest in certain animals.
The section on horses is invaluable. Any animal artist knows that horses are one of the most difficult species to work with. The detail is impeccable, and the they illustrate nearly every part of the body from every angle you could possibly view it from. It's perfection.
The section on the dog employs what I think is a great dane, or some other large dog. This is quite useful, as you can adapt the anatomical information to drawing other canids such as wolves if you're familiar with the differences between the two.
The same thing goes for the section on the lion. A previous reviewer lamented that there was no section on the tiger, but this is really only half-true: the lion and the tiger are actually nearly identical anatomically. Take the anatomical pictures provided and dress it up in a different skin; you have a tiger. All cats have roughly similar bodily structure, so this is useful anyhow. This is especially true of the detailed images of their paws, which are quite interesting and complex.
I won't go into any depth about the rest of the sections, but even for the information in the first three this book is well worth it.
Rating: 5
Summary: The most detailed, but limited scope
Comment: This book is the best book I have yet found on animal anatomy. However, that may not be saying much. Nearly a third of the book is devoted to the horse, and the remainder is divided into increasingly smaller sections on the cow, dog, cat, and goat. Then, at the end, there are several one-page plates of bats, flying squirrels, and other assorted animals most people will only snicker at the presence of.
Still, if you want a way to see how the horse, cow, cat, or dog is 'put together,' this is the best I've found without bringing wrath of the EPA and PETA down on you.

Summary: Nice book for the money
Comment: This is an excellent reference for drawing or sculpting
horses, dogs and lions, but there isn't much else. For most
animals, it presents professional B/W illustrations of
skeleton, muscles and complete flesh from every angle, as well
as average dimensions, making it a very useful reference.
However, I didn't give it a perfect score because it doesn't
have any information on tigers, which are the most beautiful
animals, and other common animals were forgotten, such as cats,
elephants, giraffes, squirrels, monkeys (more than a side
view), bears, rabbits, snakes, etc. And it has strange animals
you may never want or need to draw, like a flying squirrel or
rat kangaroo?! In any case, I definitely got my money's worth
for $12.99 and I highly recommend it for horses, dogs or lions.
