Comment: Don't waste your time or money on this book.

Associated Press editor Norm Goldstein contributed the text for a disappointing look at television history. Actually, considering its size, there is very little text in this coffee table picture book. That the text is dry and uninspired isn't even the main problem. Goldstein's "The History of Television" is filled with typos and unforgivably; it is sprinkled with factual errors.

"The History of Television" has the feel of two completely unrelated books in one. A reader can page through quickly and just read the picture captions or sit back and wade through the dry text. Little consideration was taken with the layout of the pictures to match what is being described in the text. When the text is covering early 1950's TV, the accompanying photos are of 1970's sitcoms and recent programs such as "America's Most Wanted."

If the reader should give up on reading the full text, they are only left with looking at the blurry pictures and trying to make sense of the inaccurate captions.

Just one example: a full page photo of the cast of the TV-movie "Rescue from Gilligan's Island" is captioned as being a cast photo from the first season of the Gilligan's Island series. It even credits actress Judith Baldwin as actually being Tina Louise.

Mistakes and inaccuracies make this book worthless for anyone seriously interested in the history of television. I feel sorry for anyone who actually relies on this book for source material.
