Summary: Everything a Cookbook Should Be!
Comment: I *highly* recommend Moosewood Restaurant Low-Fat Favorites; it is everything a cookbook should be. The authors provide down-to-earth instructions and thorough explanations. Nearly all ingredients are easily found at any major grocery store and the recipes result in flavor-packed, satisfying meals. Each well-organized recipe comes with an estimated preparation time, estimated cooking time, complete nutritional profile (including both fiber and fat count), and a recommendation from the authors for what other recipes in the book would complement a given dish. Indexes list the lowest fat recipes in the book, the quickest recipes in the book, etc. Although most of the dishes focus on vegetarian fare, omnivores (such as myself) should not shy away from this fabulous resource. An entire chapter is devoted to fish, and chicken breasts or other low-fat meat can always be incorporated into other recipes. The book is also packed with a wealth of low-fat cooking tips that any chef will find helpful for everyday, healthy, flavorful cooking.

Summary: Adventurous cooking
Comment: I have used this cookbook for a few years now and have found many of the recipes to be wonderful and a few not so great. But overall I am pleased to have it. My favorites have been the Asian Noodle soup, Sothwestern corn and potato soup, Black bean chilaquile, Penne with puttanesca sauce, Eggplant parmesan, Baked beets and shallots, Japanese sesame spinach, and my favorite recipe for banana bread-Banana bundt cake. These are all very flavorful and satisfying dishes. I plan to keep trying many more of the recipes in the future. I recommend this book highly but you may not like all the recipes. Some that other reviewers have mentioned they liked I did not care for (Jerk Tofu, macaroni and cheese) and some I thought were pretty bad (almost fat-free cornbread) but it is just a matter of taste. The recipes I do like I make again and again so I am glad I own this book.

Summary: One of my favorites
Comment: This cookbook is one I turn to again and again for recipes that my non-vegetarian friends will enjoy when they come to eat in my vegetarian home. My favorite recipe is for farfalle with red lentils, artichokes, and feta -- very filling, very easy, out of the ordinary. The banana bread/cake is wonderful if you don't like your desserts very sweet. The apple crepes are popular at brunches, and who could resist burritos made with sweet potatoes and black beans? Yum. I have made many recipes from this book, without ever a flop. Most of the recipes are fairly easy to make, even if they have many steps. I recommend this cookbook highly, especially for people who are trying to please vegetarians and omnivores simultaneously.
