Summary: Burton's Batman
Comment: As I write this, the Dark Knight is getting ready to be reborn on the big screen, after the disaster that was Batman And Robin all but stalled the film franchise. It's hard to imagine that it has been 15 years since Tim Burton first took viewers to Gotham City. With that in mind I decided to emmerce myself in the making of the of the first 4 movies--starting with the original (and best) Bat-blockbucter from Burton--as I drool waiting for Chris Nolan's re-launch.

The 96 page book called, Batman: The Official Book of the Movie by John Marriot, is a good read. It covers all of the familar movie making bases. After reading the book, I was reminded just how much that famed writer/artist Frank Miller's take on the mythology influenced the film. Readers are given an overview and history with comments from creator, the late great Bob Kane, and others at DC Comics. Given the controversy over the casting of Michael Keaton as Batman, at the time, it was fun to revisit that whole broohaha, with the luxuary of hindsight. Key seqences from the film are examined with dozens of photos and storyboards throughout.

Comment: John Marriot gives a brilliantly mature insight into the supposedly immature Batman genre. With wonderful behind the scenes articles and brilliant shots from the film, it really is worth getting hold of. Truly magnificent.
