Summary: Doesn't matter if it's true or not
Comment: Oh, how these reviews have evoked emotion in people...talk about religion and the afterlife and people just can't deal with each other. Many are afraid to face their imminent deaths.
I gave this book 4 stars because it doesn't matter whether or not it's true. What Ms Eadie describes is a heaven where people do nice things for others, and love is unconditional. They have learned the principles of life: faith, hope, altruism, patience...and LOVE...things most people in our world have yet to learn. If this is indeed, as Ms Eadie states in her book, why we have come down to earth, then it is obvious by our world's problems that the education is much needed.
Whether or not it is true is irrelevant. I am an educated woman, not a religious zealot but not a close-minded skeptic either. I read the book with open eyes, and was entranced by her images of a perfect heaven. This book brought peace to a woman terrified of death; now my visions of a cold grave are replaced with a heaven full of singing flowers, perfect buildings and unconditional love. If the only thing that awaits me is indeed a cold grave, will it have hurt me that I lived my life with a beautiful vision of the afterlife?
Will I have lived in vain if I learned from this book to love others unconditionally, to give of myself, of patience and faith that my purpose will be fulfilled?
Judge for yourself how you will view heaven, but for God's sake don't attack a woman for her views.

Summary: This book helped me get in touch with my late brother.
Comment: Being an openminded art student whose brother just passed suddenly, I was ready to look at the other side of life-with this book. I was scared to face the reality of his death and yet wanted so much to get closer to his spirit. Her descriptions of death and conversations with the spirit world only widened my imagination about the wonderfullness my brother must be experiencing. The book was truthfully real and simply read. Betty J. Eadie's story has inspired me to paint my feelings about my brother with halos of light surrounding the figures heads. I wanted to show the love I was sure he was sending me through our spiritual connection. Without a doubt, I wouldn't have felt as comfortable expressing- nor would be able to express as well, without reading her book. Thankyou Betty... For those of you who have read this book (you'll know what I'm talking about), I think this book is the reason she had to come back to earth....

Summary: Cashing in on Grief?
Comment: Many people who read this book have it handed to them after the death of a loved one. For me it was the passing of my wife's father. She read it and found it a great comfort so she asked me to read it too. I was skeptical but for her sake, I read it. I am a slow reader but this thing is so full of fluff that I got through it in two hours. Religion is a great comfort to people in times of personal grief and I realize that this book has helped many to cope with death. But religion is also, along with politics, one of the few career fields where you can turn bull---- into money. It is plainly obvious that this whole thing was made up.
She never says why she was in the hospital. What caused the near death experience? Explaining this might have given the story a little more credibility, but for the author, none of this was relevant. The only reason for writing the book was to tell the miraculous story. Most NDEs last only a few minutes. This one was long enough for a feature-length film, and she has total recall of every little detail. How could she have survived such a lengthy NDE? She crammed a lot of material into the four or five minutes that a person can survive such an ordeal.
Pardon me for being so skeptical of a book that clearly has helped so many people in their darkest hour. Maybe the author was sincerely trying to use her story-telling skills to help people cope with death. But on the other hand, if there is a heaven, and if she did write this to cash in on the grief of others, she'll need a lot more than a good line of bull---- when she meets her maker for real.
