Summary: Humorous and Touching
Comment: This isn't just a book for guys. Although it's sort of a coming of age thing about late teen-early 20s males, there is much for any woman with intelligence and feelings. Based on real escapades of the author and another who remains his dearest friend today, the book features experiences and emotions we've all had, but expressed better than most of us could. Doug Miller is brilliant, compassionate, clever, and kind. These traits are reflected in his writing. While certainly no prude, I found it refreshing that so very little obscene language is employed which makes the work almost unique.

Summary: What a funny (and smart) book!
Comment: The Greek Summer is smart and funny -- in fact, it made me laugh out loud several times.
It is an all-American, coming of age story about a group of young California lifeguards in 1960, and easy for anyone who is (or has been) young to relate to.
The two main characters -- Miller and Bowman -- are well-developed and very likeable. Fellow lifeguard "The Earthquake" is at the center of most the book's laughs.
While enjoying the best summer of their young lives, Miller, Bowman, Earthquake and the gang manage to soak up plenty of sun at the beach and get themselves into plenty of mischief on and off the job. Oh by the way -- they also accidentally discover their intellectual side (well, maybe not Earthquake) when Bowman takes a Greek philosophy class and shares his readings with the others. Hence the name, The "Greek" Summer.
But trust me: Plato and Socrates have NEVER been this funny!
If you're looking for a good laugh while also giving your intellect a little exercise, check out this book. I absolutely loved it!
