Summary: An incredible book
Comment: These days, you never see 'works' like this. The work that went into getting these beautigul and timeless letters. The astounding photographs that go with them. Just a treat to read. Also, a really GREAT gift to give for any baseball fan. I guarantee they've never seen anything like it.

Summary: Proud to own it
Comment: Quite frankly, with so much work that continually piles up on my desk, I didn't 'jump' right into this book when someone gave it to me as a birthday gift following Mr. Swirsky's appearance on The Today Show.
I picked it up this summer and was completely and totally overwhelmed by the emotions it brought out in me. Not only is it a beautiful book (you must actually SEE it to understand and EXPERIENCE it), but it is a book to learn from. You find yourself reminiscening about things in your own chiildhood through the letters that were written to Mr. Swirsky (from the guy who's grandfather invented wiffleball to paul mccartney of the Beatles). So, the book is like a personal time machine. But, more than that, I learned so many things through these letters, "life" things. The window is "baseball", but once you crawl through it, it really unlocks deep and beautiful emotions.
I don't write too many "reviews" per se-- but this book deserves everything everyone I've seen on 'google' says about it. It's highly original and compelling. I'm proud to own it.

Summary: Something to Treasure
Comment: This book is truly great in the fact that even after you've read the letters in it, months later, you remember what some people said--and those things were so inspiring: peter tork of the monkees talking about how 'participating' in an event is, in itself, such a great thing to do. Or, Martin Luther's King's photographer, Flip Schulke, remembering what a great dad Dr. King was...i never thought of dr. king as a father, only as a civil rights leader. Or the guy who's grandfather invented wiffleball and what makes it such a special game. With baseball as a backdrop, all of these intyeresting people wrote to the author (along with some of my favorite baseball players). This book is a true gem, not only for what it is when you're reading it, but for what it is when you are NOT reading it.If you just took away from this visually beautiful book a simple life lesson or two (and you take away many more than that), it would be well worth it. it has been to me and those i've given it to. I highly, highly recommend it to anyone who likes...life!
