Summary: A nice balancing act
Comment: Charmed is a fun show and remarkably unobjectionable to wiccans and other followers of alternative spiritual paths. The secret seems to be that no matter how much nonsense there is in it, it is true to the spirit and never harms. This book does a great job of distinguishing authentic traditions from the TV made-up stuff, and can introduce a novice (who might think "witchcraft" and "magic" look pretty cool, from watching the show, and wants an easy how-to guide) to the true traditions underlying the show - without giving too much away, either. After all, if you want real magic, you have to do it yourself, every step of the way, and you can't get that from a book; but the book is surprisingly good at conveying that concept. At the same time, for those who just want to know more about the show, this isn't an authorized book, but it has enough details from the show in it to satisfy most fans. Good job!

Summary: The Book of Shadows: The Unofficial Charmed Companian
Comment: Like many other reviewers here when I first opened this book I expected to find reviews on each episode and stuff like that. Instead I found spells and other magic things. Reading this inspired me to become a Wiccan, however when I researched on the web I found that most of the information in this book doesn't actually follow any Wiccan laws. It also doesn't touch at all on the religion that is involved whenever you become a Pagan.

Summary: Big Disappointment
Comment: I purchased this book thinking that it was at least a decent guide to Charmed. True, there are no other Charmed guides, but this one isn't even updated; there are about 5 seasons missing. In the first section of the book, the author attempts to explain Wicca. It's o.k. if one has no prior knowledge of the religion. My main complaint is the childish manner in which it was written. I expected more depth and intelligence. It was poorly written. Hopefully someone else will write a better guide to Charmed. Don't waste your money on this one.
