Summary: sometimes confusing for me...
Comment: This book is used as our text in my senior level business strategy class. I found the book easy to read. However, understanding for me did not come as easily. Concepts discussed were vague. Although they were well defined, their relationships were not as obvious. The graphs that were provided did not help me to understand some of the ideas. However, the charts were good at putting the ideas and different classifications together.

Rating: 4
Summary: Complete and comprehensible
Comment: This strategic management book is definitely a good introduction into strategic management. I am a management student myself and read it as an introduction. I have compared it to some of the other intoductory books that other schools use, and in my opinion, it is much more direct than the others I have seen. It does not beat around the bush. And it is more detailed than the others. For example, the chapter on competitive, unlike many of the other books, really tries to give as concrete a picture as possible about what this 'vague' concept actually entails. In short, it really increased my insight into the area of strategic management a great deal!

Summary: "Approach" is the right word
Comment: I used this book in my Business Strategy class this semester. I think that this book only begins to approach the material it covers. I am sure that the authors could have gone into far more detail when writing the book, but I don't think that was the purpose of the book. I think that it is intended to be an introduction to strategic management, and it does a great job of doing that. It provides an easy to read format and attractive tables and diagrams. The strategy in action, opening, and closing cases provide a helpful real-world application of the material. I think that this is a great way to provide students with an overview of the material. I learned alot from the book and the class it was used for.
