Customer Reviews

Rating: 1
Summary: One of the worst books on careers/resumes ever
Comment: It's hard to believe that such a book remains on the market. The examples could hardly be less timely. This book is a horrible purchase. I have read it from cover to cover and have found not ONE iota of information helpful. PLEASE do not waste your money on this book!

Rating: 1
Summary: Buy this book (if you want to write a bad resume)
Comment: This book sucks! I wish I could issue a TRO against it. I wish there was a good book on this subject - (authors anyone?) and have seen books in other professions (i.e. health). First of all, as another reviewer stated, this book is out of date, but shouldn't be. It was published in 1995, and I think my resume looked better than the formatting techniques presented by this author (wasn't Microsoft Word around then?). The resumes aren't divided by area of practice or speciality, nor divided by chrnological and functional. Additionally, the examples do not adaquately follow the rules of resume writing, using active verbs, telling a story, selling the candidate. Many of the resumes don't even state what the person did at the careers. I can't believe that these were based on resumes of people who actually got jobs. If you want a good book on resume writing, check out the "idiots guide for resumes". (Yes I hate being called an idiot - but it was the best "how to" write resumes I've found.) If someone can write a better book than this, please do. Do not waste your time with this unless you want a ten dollar tax deduction.

Summary: Out of date and not worth your time
Comment: I have had experience writing resumes for corporate jobs and just hoped that this book would give me some ideas for a law resume. It didn't. Actually, the book contained many poor examples of resumes that were unclear and poorly laid out. They were resumes I would never consider sending to someone who actually had the power to hire me for fear that the resume would immediately end up in the trash. Don't use these examples and don't waste your money.
