Summary: Enlightening
Comment: Motivation as a cognitive process. How socializaton has taken away a great deal of a persons ability to determine ones own path in life. Many people are stuck in automatic behaviors. Many people are unaware of innate needs that have been blocked out of conscious awareness. People have a need for competence and self-determination. People substitute actual needs for substitute needs when actual needs become blocked out of conscios awareness. A must read. There are three possible operating systems one can operate from: internal, external, amotivational. Internal: Awareness and impetus to fulfill actual needs such as love, sef-determination etc. External: Person takes cues from the external environment and obeys the programmed actions from those cues. Amotivational: A state of helplessness the connection between ones behavior and the outcomes of that behavior are servered. Person cannot fulfill needs or cause change in his environment.
