Summary: First time reader
Comment: This is the first novel by Jeffery Deaver that I have read. I decided to pick it up after seeing the Bone Collector (I wish I'd have read THAT before seeing to movie!) I finished it an hour ago & am now looking for more of Deaver's books to order. It is impressive, clever & fascinating. It keeps you guessing all the way until the last 50 or so pages. Very unexpected ending. I love the real feel of Deaver's portrayal of Lincoln Rhyme & the strength the character displays against his handicap. Although there are a few times when he shows frustration with himself for not being the able-bodied person he once was, the way he seems to have honed his mind into a razor-sharp weapon is inspiring. The charachter of Amelia Sachs is also a great addition. I like the way she never lets Rhyme get away with openly feeling sorry for himself & in return, he is teaching her to perfect her skills in forensics. They make a great team & I look forward to starting the next book, The Empty Chair, in the Lincoln Rhyme series. I love the two charachters & hope there will be more books in the series.

Summary: Deaver's Dastardly Disguises
Comment: I have only recently entered the world of Jeffery Deaver, but I have become totally immersed in it. Anyone with an interest into forensics, psychology, or good old crime stories will enjoy this book. As in his other works I've read, Deaver fleshes out his characters in a way that gives the reader a personal connection with them, where you feel you know everything about them. Of course, he also has a habit of blowing those feeling to bits with his ingenious plot twists. This book is no exception. I was especially pleased with the "big surprise" in this novel. It caught me completely off guard. At first it seems highly illogical, but once the details are presented, it makes perfect sense. Also, Deaver once again displays his ability to intricately describe police procedures, forensic analyses, and psychological evaluations. After reading a story like this one, it is entirely possible for a reader to feel that they could solve a complex murder mystery, just by using the techniques discussed here. All in all, a marvelous book. My only complaint would be the incessant use of the word "wormy" which Deaver uses to describe the killer's feeling of unease. It tends to get old. If you can overlook that, which thankfully, I did, this one is a keeper.

Summary: Enjoyable
Comment: This is the first Deaver novel that I have read and I found it enjoyable. There were several suspenseful parts of this book and also some boring. Some areas dragged out longer then necessary so you lost the major page turner yearning.
