Customer Reviews

Rating: 5
Summary: Great Insights
Comment: I enjoy the clarity and pace of the author's writing. The first part of the book lays a basic .NET foundation rich in explainations and diagrams. Part two emphasizes Enterprise component building techniques while part three integrates the concepts presented. I found the code samples to have many insights helpful in developing real-world business applications. I highly recommend this book for those moving beyond .NET basics and learning on their own.

Rating: 2
Summary: Better books by better authors
Comment: If you want a technically stronger book, pick anything by Balena or Richter. Dan Fox had a pretty bright future in the field of writing technical books and evangelizing Visual Basic, but he squandered that potential by hiring on with a company like Quilogy. Steer your attention and your dollars toward authors who write objectively and do not fill their books with oblique references to their third-rate consulting firms.

Rating: 5
Summary: Great Referance
Comment: I found this book to be a great resource for intermediate to advanced developers. It covers everything you need to know for building desktop and web applications and made the transition from VB6/ASP to VB.NET/ASP.NET easier for me. The book contains very helpful tables that list the functions that are no longer supported in the .NET framework and the new way of programming that correspond to the old way. I particularly liked the code samples that were provided in the book and found them to be extremely helpful when developing real-world business applications. I highly recommend this book for a person who needs to know everything about .NET and is learning on their own.
