Summary: the stencils are light cardboard
Comment: I had been hoping the stencils were plastic, but it turns out they're made out of thick paper (or light cardboard, depending on how you look at it). It wouldn't take much to rip them.

The book came as recommended to four and up, but I would say five and up. The stencils aren't tough enough for a four year old to use, and they are too difficult for a four year old to cut out.

The book consists mainly of the stencils and pattered paper to use the stencils on. The first four pages contain facts about dinosaurs. The last four pages consist of ideas on what to do with the stencils (like a bookmark or decoration for a pen holder).

Comment: This book is great for all ages. I bought the book to use with scrapbooking pages, but will also use this as an activity with kids as young as 5 years old. The stencils are large enough that a small kid can use, yet detailed enough to embellish the work that I do. The stencils are easy to cut for a youngster. The paper that is included is elegant for scrapbook pages or for a kid's project. I highly recommend this book for anyone who works with kids and likes to keep them busy. The possibilities are endless. I have seen other 'paper chain' books and they were too complicated for me let alone a kid.
