Summary: Good reading for "faux" egyptologist!!!
Comment: I liked this book. Kent Weeks makes his KV5 experience personal and includes the reader throughout "Lost Tomb". I like the fact that he explains the back ground of various events and problems he comes across while trying to map out Thebes. I would recommend this book to people like me . . . people who have never been to Egypt, but who hope to go one day; people who have read alot of books by archeologists and egyptologists but have no formal education on the subject; and finally, people who like to read good books. Good job, Mr. Weeks. I look forward to reading your next book.

Summary: Fascinating account of the re-discovery of KV5
Comment: This is an fascinating account of the discovery, or, to be precise, re-discovery, of the sprawling KV5 tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Dr. Kent Weeks, who heads the excavation project, provides us with a lucid narrative of the events in which the inquisitive mind and perseverence of archeologists and others who're involved in the venture finally led to the unveiling of one of the most amazing tombs in dynastic Egypt. The author has adopted a matter of fact approach and thankfully does not sensationalise matters or make wild predictions that are unsupported by facts. Nevertheless, the story is embellished by rich details, a sense of humour and some human touches, making it an enjoyable read from beginning to end. Furthermore, the reader can also know something about the not-too-glamorous side of archeology (which often involves tedious work in highly uncomfortable and even claustrophobic environment) and this, by itself, can be quite eye-opening to the uninitiated. On the other hand, the sense of awe and amazement on the part of those who first entered the "lost tomb", as well as the sense of disappointment at some other stages in the excavation, is palpable. With its friendly writing style and interesting subject matter, I believe that this book would not only appeal to those who're already steeped in Egyptology or archeology in general, it should also be easily appreciated by the general reader.

Summary: Fascinating History
Comment: Kent Weeks did not actually "discover" KV5. That was done by James Burton in the early part of the 19th century. Weeks more or less stumbled upon the entrance to the tomb while working on his Theban Mapping Project. However accidental, you have to give Dr. Weeks his due. The re-discovery of KV5 is perhaps one of the greatest events in Egyptology ever, definitely since the days of Howard Carter. This book is a gripping, detail-filled account of Weeks' excavation of some of the first chambers of the tomb. Yes, there is a lot of detail here about pottery fragments among the debris but Weeks makes it very clear that the debris in the tomb is just as important to learning about the ancient Egyptians as the tomb paintings. Maybe the discovery of KV5 was not flashy enough for some - no rooms filled with gold and riches. Dr. Weeks deserves a lot of credit for his dedicated , painstaking work on KV5 and in the Valley of the Kings in general. This book is perfect for all amateur Egyptologists or anyone interested in ancient history.
