Summary: Will Natalie's Mom Find Out -- a review by Kuran, age 9
Comment: Natalie starts to write a book, "The Cheater." Zoe loves the book, and thinks that she can get the book published. The only problem is that Natalie's mom is the only publisher they know. So Zoe thinks up a big plan, and decides to be Natalie's agent, Sherry Clutch. Natalie and their teacher, Ms. Clayton, join in. Natalie decides to have her pen name be Cassandra Day. Will they slip past Natalie's mom, or will she find out?
"School Story" was a great book, almost the best book I've ever read. It has a great plot (I think), and it shows how the girls think and feel. It shows lots of excitement and creativity. The characters have totally different personalities, which makes the book fun. And it is also pretty funny. This is the kind of book that does not need a sequel because the ending finishes perfectly, and locks everything up. It is the kind of book that does not suit some people, because there's not tons of action and fighting, but some people can't stop reading it because they just have to know what happens next. I think most of Andrew Clements books are pretty good, but this is his best book yet.

Summary: A Reach for the Stars Writer
Comment: A talented writer, Natalie Nelson, just trying to keep a secret, expeditions through the teeming city of New York. This girl, inspirational, determined, and I would have to also say valiant, composes a life-like story and wants to get it published. Her best friend, "Zee Zee" Reisman, reads her story and she thinks it is so brilliant that she slithers around New York with Natalie to try and get Natalie's book, 'The Cheater', published. Everywhere from slyly getting her timorous teacher, Ms. Clayton, to help them, making phone calls to "important" people, venturing to an office supplies store, and, best of all, sneaking into a publishing office, Shipley Junior Books, Zee Zee, Zoe, is definitely unwavering to get Natalie's book to a special editor, Natalie's mom.
Natalie's mother, Hannah Nelson, is an editor at Shipley Junior Books and a very good one. Natalie wants her mother to read her book, but has a few questions first.
Natalie explores Hannah Nelson's, her mom's, office and asks her many questions about where books go, what the steps of publishing were, and which stories her mom usually looks at first. She asks all of these questions with her mom not even the tiniest bit suspicious. She just told her she was a little curious. To make it even more interesting she makes up a pen name to keep under cover: Cassandra Day. Her mom would think the book was a joke if she told her that she wrote it.
This new writer, Cassandra Day, is the talk of the town and people of all ages are tingling to snatch her story, including the editor in chief, Letha Springfield.
This may seem simple, but getting such a great story past the eyes of the overpowering chief of Shipley Junior Books can be pretty tough. It seems that some people just won't go away, like mosquitoes, but that doesn't stop Zee Zee, their English teacher, and an anxious Natalie Nelson. The adventures are tense as Natalie keeps the book a secret from her mom. Will they succeed?
It's not just the adventure. It's also the touch that this book brings to your heart. It makes you feel your family can be brought so much closer together with just one thing, even if it's not publicity, though this isn't that type of case. To me anyone that can bring tears to their mother's eyes is one phenomenal writer. But, Natalie's mom didn't even know that her daughter wrote it and her Hannah Nelson cried.
'The School Story' is one definite 5 star book right off the top. This girl is one good secret keeper, exceptional writer, and incomparable inspirer. This book gets the wheels moving in your brain for what power you have with just a pencil and some paper.

It is a heartwarming story about a young girl and her friend trying to make Natalie's writing dream come true. After her father died, Natalie tries to make a real life for herself without her dad in her life. She tries to do what she loves to do. Natalie strides ahead to make a School Story but gets caught up in some problems with the publisher, Hagatha. Natalie and her close friend Zoe, are so determined to get Natalie's book published that they make up their own publishing company, and Zoe becomes Natalie's chief and her helper. Natalie's disguises herself as Cassandra Day, so no one will know her identity, especially her mom. Will Natalie (Cassandra Day) get her book published? Read this Andrew Clements wonder book that you won't put down. Your children will read it numerous times and they will love it. But you can't resist the passion and the sad times in the book.
